VERMONT- Many may have heard of Steampunk and wondered exactly what it was.  Steampunk,  according to Jeff Folbs, Owner of Vermont Gatherings, and a steam punk enthusiast,  is a Victorian era genre, with science fiction and fantasy elements.    “Examples of Steam Punk can be seen in movies such as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and The Wild, Wild West. In fiction Steampunk can be seen in books by Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, Folbs said

“The genre has been around for a while and has become really popular over the last 10-15 years or so,” he continued. Those who are involved in Steampunk enjoy dressing up in Victorian garb creating steam powered Victorian era themed inventions and contraptions.   “Steam punk enthusiasts are very much into creating and playing their own personas. Steampunk is for anybody who is on the creative side and enjoys making things,” Folb said.

Steam Punk conventions include performers, and panel workshops, especially for Makers.  Other events at Steampunk gatherings can include Tea Pot Racing, where people build and race remote control vehicles based on tea pots and Tea Duels a Victorian Tea competition based on manners.

2020 Steampunk events planned in Vermont include events in Springfield and Chittendon. More information on Vermont Gatherings, organizers of Genre and History based events, can be found at www.vtgatherings.com
