NASHUA, N.H. – Over the winter, board gamers might want sharpen their skills in anticipation of the Granite Game Summit which will be held from March 6th to 8th 2020. The summit, a three-day around the clock event of open board gaming, which was created to give the board gamers at large a place to have fun as a community.
Last year the event, which is held at Double Tree by Hilton in Nashua N.H., attracted 500 people with some attendees staying at the hotel and gaming around the clock. “Those who attend range from families with children to adults in their 70’s and 80’s. We have a good number of attendees in the 25 to 45 age range,” said Mike Taylor of Granite Game Summit.
Board games at the event include both older classic games as well as newer ones. “We have a game library of over 600 available games for attendees to choose from. Attendees can also bring games from their personal library. We have games such as Pandemic, Ticket to Ride and Twilight Imperium. There are also Anagram type games such as Scrabble and Letter Jam which won a Game of the Year award, Taylor continued.
As for the history board gaming he said, “People have played games forever. In the last 10 to 15 years the hobby of board gaming has really taken off. In 2011 Kickstarter became a platform for board games to be published. A number of new games have been published since then,”Taylor stated.
Game playing is not only fun but has beneficial effects on mental health and social interaction as well, he continued. “Gaming, no matter what form it takes, is important for its mutual shared experiences with others,”he said.
