Composed of some lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway State Park is an exquisite park to visit. The area has always been noted for its natural beauty, enjoyed by many famous people, including Henry David Thoreau. It was created in 1966 as a means of protecting the area from what could destroy it.
Also noted for being the first state-administered component of the National Wild and Scenic River System, a trip to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway State Park could really be an excellent way to commune with nature. Folks could enjoy camping, wildlife viewing, canoeing, cross country skiing, fishing, hiking, hunting, snowshoeing, swimming, and snowmobiling at the site.
